  1. animals shiver
    in hovels, lone leopard pads
    through green, snow-chilled trees

  2. The Leopard’s Prayers

    My ancestors in heaven
    snow king be your name

    Your kingdom come
    your will be done
in winter as it is in other seasons

Give me this day my daily prey
and protect me from my predators
as I also have protected my cubs

And lead me not into desolation
    but deliver me from famine

  5. flurries quietly
    touching noses while paws press
    crisp, crunchy, icy
    nature’s floor of wintry pad
    coolness warms the leopard’s heart

  7. yesterday,
freezing winter seemed so far away
now my chilly cubs refuse to play
    oh I believe in yesterday

    suddenly,
I’m not half the cat I used to be
so many hares are white and hard to see
    oh yesterday came suddenly

why my toes are froze, I don’t know
    the sky is gray
my cave is cold, so I search
    for yesterday
