This week let’s write a discovery poem. So many options here, I won’t even bother to offer suggestions just be sure to post what you discover in the comments below.
About Bartholomew Barker
Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.
He had a gift.
A certain … style
or way about him.
He strode confidently,
every room he entered,
his stage.
Every eye,
its gaze,
in engrams recording
the color of his clothes,
his posture, its pose,
every feature of his face.
He took his place,
behind the lecturn,
grasped the mic,
held it firm,
then burst into tears.
Why had she spurned him
with her death.
A sentence,
he could not speak.

Posted by Dennis | June 12, 2023, 6:34 PMDouble Oops
I trip upon a doggie toy,
it hits my coffee cup.
The coffee spills
and stains the rug.
I discover what goes down
can be a bother
to clean up.

Posted by JeanMarie | June 15, 2023, 5:36 PMGood answer! I assumed the dust bunnies were a metaphor for the corrupt oligarchs after being exposed the sunshine of true democracy.
