Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.
Living Poetry 
I don’t think I’d want to be a vampire
Yeah, they’re immortal and super strong
and can turn into a bat and fly away
But just how long DO they actually live?
They always seem to be getting staked
by some wannabe Van Helsing
or set on fire by the sun
or thrown into some holy water and exploding
I bet if you take all the vampires that have ever lived
you’d find they only have a life span of a week
I’ll stick with what I have
and spend some nice afternoons at the beach

really, this behavior was odd
kids took after him, too
such an array of idiosyncrasies
