Monday Poetry Prompt: Rest

We’re a few days from National Poetry Month, so let’s write a rest poem today then take it easy and recharge our batteries because starting Thursday we write a poem-a-day for the month of April.

I’ll be following the Write Better Poetry blog (formerly Poetic Asides) for daily prompts and I’m sure there are plenty of other sites who’ll be posting prompts too. In addition to your rest poem, put links to any places you’d recommend for daily prompts in the comments below.

The next post here will be a visual prompt to celebrate the merry month of May.

  1. Hello, I’m joining you for the first time from Cincinnati.

I’m glad my sweater has a hood
to break the chilly winds of spring
branches are dancing with new buds
as the hillside gently sways in green
raising my eyes to squirrels leaping
    from treetop to distant tree
    everything is coming to life
right here in front of me
and I wonder where this was last week
when everything was dark and deep
with earth’s cold blanket wrapped up tight
for the last of winter is put to sleep

  2. I took your advice. I took a nap. But didn’t write a poem.

  3. Thank you for the link for April. I am going to try to write to a theme for April.

To finish out March like a lamb:

When life gets me down and I am tired
and hope seems too far for to reach
sometimes it is better to just snuggle
find a soft blanket and scent my pillow
    with lavender for relaxation
leaning into the possibilities of nothing
allowing the mind to stop, reset, renew
before spring calls me forward from my rest
and so it goes that my muse will call me
when it is once again time to harvest
and enjoy honey in my tea of life
