Monday Poetry Prompt: Haberdasher

This week, let’s write a haberdasher poem. While the term is not in common use these days, what it refers to is still quite common. I’ll leave it to the poet to decide which meaning applies to the poem, posted in the comments below.

From fifty cents to five dollars

    Growing up we had words,
fifty cent words were those big words used by smart tarts.

Or folks accused to “gettin’ above their raisin’.”
    They were used brazin’.

    Sometimes correctly,
    sometimes not.

    Now thanks to inflation,
    or creation.

    Hasenpfeffer
    Haberdasher
    Flabbergasted
    kerfuffle
    Obfuscate
    Boondoggle
    Fastidious

    Could you please speak English?
    What’s wrong with;
    Rabbit stew
    Men’s clothing
    Shocked
    A fuss
    Unclear
    No real value
    Detail oriented

    It makes my head hurt.
    Words
    Words
    Words
    Sometimes it’s just absurd.
