Monday Poetry Prompt: Clairvoyance

This week, let’s write a clairvoyant poem. Do you have ESP? Of course you don’t but it’s easy to imagine so let’s write about what you’d remote view and what you’d see. Post you precognition or retro in the comments below.

Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, a collection of poets in the Triangle region of North Carolina where he has hosted a monthly feedback workshop for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2021. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he lives and writes poetry.

    Don’t Believe a Thing I See

    Folks think I’m a clairvoyant.
    They think I see the future.
    I can tell them what will be
    with weather and misfortune.

    They don’t know arthritis flares
    before a coming storm.
    They don’t know I listen to
    the gossip in the market.

    Thank heaven’s I won’t take a dime
    as payment for my visions.
    I’m as psychic as a rug,
    but I stay out of prison.
