Monday Poetry Prompt: Chimney

This week let’s write a chimney poem. Hang your best metaphors and similes with care in the hopes that some readers soon will be there. Then post your poem, covered with ashes and snow, right there, down in the comments below.

Bartholomew Barker is an organizer of Living Poetry, where he has hosted monthly workshops for more than decade. His first poetry collection, Wednesday Night Regular, written in and about strip clubs, was published in 2013. His second, Milkshakes and Chilidogs, a chapbook of food inspired poetry was served in 2017.     Now how could I possibly write a poem better than the one you wrote for the prompt?

    I See Santa, No, I Don’t

    Last year, Santa donned a hazmat
    suit and gas mask for his rounds.
    This year, Santa said that yellow
    didn’t suit his skin tone.

    He got sick from batshit
    on my chimney shaft and hearth.
    Medicare refused to cover
    such an odd disease.

    This year, he won’t visit me.
    He emailed me instead.
    I’ll get Starbucks gift cards
    in my stocking Christmas Eve.
