Monday Poetry Prompt: Meteor

This week let’s write a meteor poem. The Perseid meteor shower is peaking about now so if you’re up past midnight and can find some dark cloudless sky, have a look and you’ll likely see one streak by. Of course, meteors are excellent metaphors for anything brief and brilliant though I’ve never liked the phrase “meteoric rise” since meteors only fall.

Post your meteor poem in the comments below and if it lands, it’ll be a meteorite poem.

    Pumpkin Soup Again

Head’s falling like an unpinned grenade
    Soon ready to explode
Burying shrapnel pieces in corners of shade
    Scattered like broken retina globes

    Razor blades shredding memory lockets
    Slivered icicles inside blurry sockets
    Needles of pain
Sheets of sleet before the rain

Bloodied eyeball tracks like meteor trails
And the pain numbing capsules do fail
Oh please, blindly needing to set sail
Upon swirling Oceans, like Homer’s tales

I’m fortunate to have discovered your Poetry Blog as it is sometimes challenging to slow down with the hustle and bustle of life to find inspiration. Here’s what I came up with:
