Monday Poetry Prompt: City

Photo by Aleksandar Pasaric on Pexels.com

This week let’s write a city poem. Write about the city you live in, the city you’re from or the city where you’d like to be. Or maybe why you don’t want to be in any cities. Post your place in the comments below.

The breeze caries a cantor dust
    frozen floating mirrors
fresh from the day’s first yawn
    feet crunching toes cold

    a crusty shack
    smoking creaking banging ravens
dare each other to be the
first one to grab some fish under
the noses of the sleeping dogs

    they fly when I near
    Siler and Fluffy awaken
panting out new crystals with each breath

    The door opens the
    warmth greets a
    weathered parchment
    a health department warning
“This Premises has been exposed to Rubella”

    They are all here
Sandy and Olaf by the stove
    their woolens smoke
    Robert (not Bob) and Rachel
    get their mail
50 lbs. of flour Iridium credits
    “Starlink don’t work here”
    Sham wipes the counter
while Gil screws in the last one
    “Always use Torx screws”

    I count all but one
    the denizens I mean
    (God know where he is)
    All gathered here
    in this place

    We are all social creatures
    Sometimes even Enkidu in
    the wild craves the
    life this city holds
