January Musical Prompt

It’s been over a year since I last challenged you with a musical prompt and, since Mozart’s birthday was this past weekend, I’d like you to listen to this 82 second clip of a famous aria from his final opera. If you don’t know German, please don’t translate the lyrics. Just let the music and the soprano’s voice inspire you then post your magic poem in the comments below.

Listen to me exercise my voice.
As I rise above the chorus.

    Higher and higher I rise.
    Seeking a greater prize.

A bird song I can display. You cannot catch me for your cage.
Higher and higher I rise. Ready to turn the page.

    I don’t get opera
    I only speak English
    I’m so uncouth

    Also I can’t count syllables
    for Old School Haiku
