Monday Poetry Prompt: Smooth

This week let’s write a smooth poem. Taken literally or poetically, smooth is a great adjective to play with. Let’s have some fun and once you’ve taken care of the rough edges, post it in the comments below.

You said, “You don’t sound like you’re listening.”
So I bought an album of smooth jazz, to let you know I haven’t hung up.
    Para español, oprima ocho.

    The Full Moon in Day

She said, whoever has not topped
    the hill
    has never seen the view.
the rolling land, shades of green
    the smooth black road,

She has climbed to the halt,
    then ascended another rise,
    the hills still call
    comfort and truest victory

    Valleys once full of
    racing thought and feasts
    of kinship
    honor gravity and lie halcyon

    Beneath
    the plenilune where white
shade becomes a close held light
    encompassing its own shadow

    Moon-haired and sun touched
    she climbs and sees.
The eye is the glory God,
the mind’s vision reaches to infinity.

    Beloved in every glass blade
    you pass, wise,
to the why of all that is made,
    you, strong to rise,
delicate for all you can find,
    circle back, you entity.
New leaves make crowns for you.

    I called late that night
asked for the engineer by name
    tense woman on the line
    who are you

Calling from Goddard Space Flight Center
    we have a thermal emergency
    Can engineer come in?
Tension on the other end of the phone evaporates

Engineer came in couple of hours later
    We worked late that night
and emerge triumphant as we resolve our thermal anomaly
    I had never seen him

But at one point as we worked
he said to me “I remember you”
    “I remember your voice
on the loop on launch day”

When we thought solar arrays did not deploy
you came on the loop – “we have power”
“I bet you say that to all the girls”, I laughed
“I’m not that smooth.” replied he, casting his face down

    I do love engineers

With the breaking of the rod
    it was all over
minutes before we all went away
the box that held her form
    lowered into the crypt
    the cool stone floor
    smooth
    once again sat in silence
    in one unending coda
    of the final royal wave
