Musical Monday Poetry Prompt

We’re trying a little experiment, listen to the two-minute musical clip below then write a poem about it. Consider this the audio equivalent of our monthly visual prompts. Post your poem in the comments below or at least tell me if you’d like more of these.

    Interruptions

    I have this great plan
my list is made and checked
I sit at my desk with coffee and pen
thoughts start to form as I create

    I need this, mom
    honey, where is my
    trickle through my mind
    fill this form
    pay this bill
    do my taxes
    take this pill

    I just want to write
    bid it all to wait
    don’t need a full plate

    I have this great plan
my list is made and checked
I sit at my desk with coffee and pen
thoughts return to tasks at hand

I am in power of my plan

    The Hearing Carnival

    Musicality is a gene,
    some are born to hear
    with an inner ear.

    Connections are the thing
    neurons fire differently
    when we sing,
    the mind lights up,

    Fires in rhythm, strings
    sounds together in streams
    a meaning under words.

    The high pitched
    melody of wind in trees
at morning in the lifting light
    the composed Eden gilding sight

    Creatures rustic, unlike man
who deep inside his cognate brain
    remembers vast savannas,
    the beast populated plain.

    The mind loves best
    what it partly understands
    a recognition, a beckoning,
a mystery of the left hand.

    This way beauty, and what
    we did not perceive before,
    the music we hear
    opens us like a door.

I couldn’t fit what I visualised into a poem format. I did a piece of short writing / prose instead. It’s too long to paste here.
