Monday Poetry Prompt: Summer

Yesterday was the June solstice, the beginning of summer for poets in the northern hemisphere, so this week let’s write a summer poem. Post your sultry sonnets and torrid triolets in the comments below.

(If you’re in the southern hemisphere, feel free to compose a cold couplet or two.)

Whoops .. here is a cold one …

    “I opened the prompt link
    While daytime flew by
I blinked and in a wink
    Blue sky suddenly died
To a dull shade of zinc
And my icy quill shook awry

    Summer calls me out
inward I draw from the heat
    coolness is my friend
Once I dip into the pool
I will come to life again

    Some sagely writer once said
“July reveals the lie of Spring”
    (or something to that effect)

    But
    Sometimes
    Just sometimes
    June can pull it off
