Bartholomew Barker is one of the organizers of Living Poetry, a collection of poets and poetry lovers in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he makes money as a computer programmer to fund his poetry habit.
Welcome to the Living Poetry prompt scene! Stop by on Mondays for more lovely ideas from prompt master Barker. This is a lovely poem. I especially liked the crispness, the colors, the scents.
No matter results
I will still step forth each day
with my head held high
results are really about
how I act in my own life
I just hope my smile
is written on my face
and natural to my soul
Finally posted my reaction to this prompt:

Not sure I’m doing this, but the tiny print said to post our poem in the comments…. Here is mine :).
Fall
Chanah L. Wizenberg
Chilled crisp air
carrying the sweet scent
of apple trees in bloom.
I walk through
the dried leaves
delighting in their crunch
beneath my feet.
I watch the leaves fall
from their trees
delighted by
the bright colors.
The reds, oranges,
and yellows.
In life and in death,
nature’s remarkable
work.
Taking a deep breath.
A good long sniff,
my nostrils fill with the
chilled scent of decayed
leaves.
I can’t help it.
I love that smell.
Rich, robust and
somehow, life-affirming.

Nice work. I love the chilled scent of decayed leaves and the last stanza highlighting that strange juxtaposition. Well done.
