Bartholomew Barker is one of the organizers of Living Poetry, a collection of poets and poetry lovers in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Born and raised in Ohio, studied in Chicago, he worked in Connecticut for nearly twenty years before moving to Hillsborough where he makes money as a computer programmer to fund his poetry habit.

walking gracefully under a vase of liquid
allowing the rhythm to match their part
the lovely ladies that manage this art
at an early age when they do start
when they are young, each just a kid
the lovely ladies that manage this art
walking gracefully under a vase of liquid.
the water-carriers with colourful urns
poised so prettily on their heads
their figures are upright and elegant
swaying in their bright cheery saris
they are the life force of the barren land
