of a thought while his fingers play
over keys in a concert to himself,
“If I can just crack the prickly facade
that keeps me alone in my shyness,
I could bring beauty to thousands.”

It was definitely not love at first sight.
I had to remove the judgement of funk punk hair,
then was confronted with bullet proof shell.
I thought treasure would be discovered
after unveiling the mummy linen wrap.
But no!
Only the fire of passion melted
the crunchy bitter dinosaur skin into
buttery and sweet sustenance.
My patience and persistence prevailed!

Stan-the sea urchin
met the prickly nut sac-Hal
built a tiny house
one side, was the sand and surf
one side was trees and flora
living in their hut
they found the best of both worlds
keeping toes wettened
finding solace in the shade
their mutual needs were met
how it is with life
when faced with differences
it is possible
to find common agreement
yet comfort in uniqueness
Stan-with free slithers
Hal-with gentle spikes, you see
no harm called at all
a lot can be learned with trust
the process, it’s freeing up
