Monday Poetry Prompt: Rudiments

blocks-25800_1280

This week let’s write a rudiments poem. We all have skills in poetry, in addition to many other areas, so write about those necessary basics needed to do what we do, whatever that may be, cooking, swimming or even writing. Post your elementary response in the comments below.

  2. Rudiment

    I am a steady builder
    with a simple mind

    So I think
if I take hold of the rudiment of love
I will just build on it note by note
until a love song is created
    and sung in harmony
for the rest of our humble life

    Half way through
I realise I am confronted with a pattern
that will not flow in one accord
    instead
it is like a stream from the mountain top
    descending with the landslide
I believe it will make it on its own
landing somewhere destined by Mother Earth

    In the end
I will bawl my eyes out
    while
    wholeheartedly celebrating
a masterpiece which we are meant to create together
    but now
only you in the centre stage
    surrounded by applause
    without the sight of me

  3. my brain
    is undeveloped
    there’s a place
    where there is a stop
    call it a brake
    mine needs new brakes
    the older they get
    the more they slip
    maybe it’s a good thing

  4. Lessons
    Kindergarten lessons:
    Play nice and be kind.
Share the crayons and the toys.
Hold hands while crossing the street.

    Elementary school lessons:
    Stand in line. Obey bells.
    You will be judged.
    Mind your Permanent Record.

    Adulthood:
    Too numerous to list,
    and constantly changing,
    we are all trained animals.

Keep those halcyon days in mind.
    Play nice and be kind.
