Against the prevailing winds, this week let’s write an elated poem. It’s still important to be able to write even when you’re not feeling it so let’s try to focus on something good, really good, a memory or a hope for the future. Post your joy in the comments below.

A pleasant breeze blows across the tower
where my final sputnik of love was lifted
a pillar of white marking her path above
and only quiet now, down here below
And I will sit with my feet in the waters of Ocracoke
watching them circle overhead
With a view of the still snow-covered Sangres to my right
And the dark green pinons of Capulin to my left
While a cool, dry breeze moves gently down from the col in-between
toward the chair where I sit

Nicely done. I could sense a presence there.

I went to Shangri-la yesterday
no airlines, no psychedelic drugs
just four wheels and a flight of fancy.
From the child size stone town
we continued on to Yancyville,
adult size and tranquil.
Just a few miles down the road
and a few dozen years back
when simple joys were found
in garden corners and imagination.
Well worth the price of gas.

I hope to visit that place soon. Just the pictures, alone, make me want to go even more. Beautiful words about taking a little trip to elation.
