  1. An attitude of service
    looking for opportunities
there are chances everywhere you look
like the women’s center – they need socks and unmentionables, which I care to mention
like the charitable thrift shops – they need things no longer used
like the trees with angels – they need shoppers to buy gifts
like the lady you saw in the restaurant – leaving her bag at the table because it is empty
random acts of kindness are waiting to be done
what’s not used is no longer needed by us
what’s earned is not possible for some
what’s seen is not always as it is
trust your instincts if there are worries
but, rest assured, there’s always something to do

  2. The only service I can offer today is reading other people’s poems. Good topic for Martin Luther King day. We’re all in this together.

  4. We Are One

Despair is hidden in all walks of life
Pain does not discriminate against people
We suffer with our brothers and sisters
    Not in silence
    But in the open
The act of service is being there
    Hand in hand
    Side by side
    Listening, sharing, caring
    Supporting and doing life together
    As one
